Day to day responsibility for the the management and effective mitigation of legal and compliance in relation to the work of the Group functions, with a particular emphasis on supporting the technology and procurement functions. Providing business-focused, robust legal advice and senior-level support to the Group functions and broader organisation, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations and driving continuous improvement.
Personally demonstrates and actively promotes the requirement for a high level of integrity and ethical conduct throughout the organisation.
Reviews, advises and negotiates a broad range of multi-jurisdictional and business critical commercial and tech-focused agreements, including for software development and licensing, SaaS, hosting, service level agreements, consultancy services, outsourcing and hardware provision.
Identifying and advising on the legal risks and considerations relating to implementation of Tech programmes and other Group initiatives. Finding practical, pragmatic and commercially focused mitigations and solutions.
Providing robust advice in relation to data protection, privacy and cyber security issues.
Creating user-friendly precedent contracts with clear negotiation parameters and contract playbooks.
Facilitating improved processes and ways of working and supporting the innovative use of technology to simplify and improve the provision of legal services.
Providing training on legal and ethics and compliance matters to the Group functions.
*Raising awareness around key legal and commercial risks and supporting the implementation and embedding of global legal and compliance policies and sustainability goals.
*Managing external counsel and the associated budget and deliverables in respect of specialist issues and disputes.
Managing disputes/ litigation and their settlement.
Managing a wide range of projects: both for the legal and compliance function and broader Group projects.
Taking on any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities, wherever reasonably instructed.
English law qualified solicitor with 7 + PQE,
Training and qualification at a high quality international law firm, preferably with a focus on commercial law and/or technology.
Highly skilled and experienced in management and negotiation of complex commercial and technology-related legal matters.
Strong knowledge and understanding of technology and privacy law.
Demonstrates a commercial mindset and applies relationship management skills to build relationships with key stakeholders at multiple levels across the group.
Excellent IT skills, particularly in relation to the use of Sharepoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and ideally an enthusiastic early adopter of new Technology generally.
Works independently within functional policy and against the confines of legal practice. Uses judgement and experience on matters not seen before and consults with the Group General Counsel on matters with a Group-level impact.
Highly collaborative and positive mindset; ability to confidently deal with matters not seen before.
Demonstrates a genuine desire to add broad value to the function and to make changes which will have a positive impact on the legal function and company as a whole.
