The Regulatory team advises on all aspects of regulatory and public law, including health and safety, marine, financial and environmental regulation, judicial review and a wide range of general regulatory matters. These include Food Labelling, Trading Standards, European Chemicals Agency (REACH Regulations), Security Industry Authority and Goods Vehicle Operator Licensing. The Regulatory team's practice also covers regulatory compliance and enforcement.
There is currently an opportunity for an experienced Senior Associate to join either the Exeter or Bristol office and play a key role in the team. Main Duties are set out below but you are likely to have strong H&S experience.
Responding at short notice to clients facing investigation by regulators and occasionally the police
Representing clients at regulatory interviews including under caution
Dealing with regulators
Preparing cases for court, including holding client conferences, preparing legal arguments, etc.
Representing clients in court, if independent counsel is not retained.
Drafting legal documents.
Ensure client and matter records are made and maintained in line with the firm's procedures.
Compliance with internal policies and procedures, ethical standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain regular contact with the client and keep him/her informed at all times.
Advising clients on matters of law and evidence and the strength of their case.
Adhere to the Solicitor's Regulation Authority (SRA) Client Care directive and ensure the client care documentation is issued at the relevant time.
Experience and aptitude for business development
Ensure clients are aware of all legal services across the firm.
Develop, support and train junior and professional support staff effectively, encouraging them to produce high quality work at all times.
Comply with the relevant training requirements of your professional body.
Maintain time recording on client matters on a daily basis in accordance with the firm's procedures.
You might be a solicitor or barrister but you are likely to have at least 4 or 5 years' experience. Broad regulatory experience is necessary and health and safety and trading standards or transport experience is desirable.
Experienced Solicitor or barrister of minimum of 5 years PQE or call
Significance experience of a broad range of regulatory work, but in particular health & safety, trading standards and transport.
