Job Description

Charity/Company Secretary - National charity - Essex

A nationally renowned charity is recruiting a Charity and Company Secretary. The role shall ensure that the organisation has robust and effective governance in place which complies with statutory requirements and good practice in relation to company and charity law and charity governance.

The role will report into the CFO with a dotted line to the Chair of the Board of Trustees and have three direct reports. The post holder will be able to provide technical advice to members and staff concerning governing documents, whilst also supporting effective governance at headquarters.

Knowledge and Understanding
*A comprehensive understanding of company and charity law
*Solid understanding of governance principles
*An understanding of the culture and climate of notfor-profit sector organisations, including The Scout
*An understanding of strategic planning and measurement of performance metrics
*Knowledge of safeguarding, and child protection
*Knowledge of data protection (sufficient to fulfil role of Data Protection Officer)

Essential Criteria
*Experience of advising and supporting Boards and other staff in relation to corporate governance matters
*Experience of managing and supporting technical experts and professionals
*Proven track record of embedding governance best practice
*ICSA qualification or equivalent level of experience
*Experience of using risk management tools and processes
*Experience of using corporate planning methodologies
*Working on own initiative with limited supervision
