'Post Graduate student Charlotte Mundy talks about her route to landing her first Company Secretary role and how the insight days helped her begin her journey. Read her inspirational story here'.

I first heard about CoSec careers after attending a Post Graduate event at the University of Portsmouth, where I was already studying towards a degree in BSc Economics. The LLM/Grad ICSA course immediately stood out as being the ideal way to qualify as a Company Secretary.

After researching the potential career opportunities in this field, I was eager to find out more and gain industry experience. I attended the Insight Day at Schroders plc which after attending re-affirmed my decision to follow this career path. It was extremely helpful to have the opportunity to meet experienced professionals and gain an understanding of the day to day role of a Company Secretary, which I soon learnt is a very rewarding and diverse career.

I found the CoSec team at Schroders to be very supportive, and from then I was given the opportunity to gain additional work experience within the CoSec department. This experience was extremely rewarding and enabled me to gain a valuable insight into the industry. I also attended an Insight Day at EY which gave an interesting alternative to working as an in house Company Secretary in comparison to working within a professional services firm. Knowing the options that are available before beginning  your CoSec career was extremely useful when deciding on my first role, and the Insight days were a significant factor in helping me decide where to embark on my career.

I will be completing the LLM/Grad ICSA course later this year, and will be starting my first CoSec role in July. I am really looking forward to starting and in the next few years I hope to build on my knowledge and experience and work towards becoming an Associate member of the ICSA.
