London, 11 October 2016 - DMJ, in association with ICSA – The Governance Institute, last week ran two Insight Days hosted by the company secretarial departments at BP PLC and Schroders plc for students and graduates considering a governance career .
Championed by DMJ, the Insight Days programme is designed to expose top students to a rewarding career they might not otherwise have considered. The first two events were attended by a total of 17 students and further events are planned at companies including Aviva, Rolls Royce, Capita, Sky, PWC and National Grid
Graham Staples, Group Company Secretary for Schroders said: “Governance is already an important issue for most organisations and I see no let-up in the trend for better governance across all types of organisations. The remit of company secretaries and governance professionals will continue to grow and it is great to see DMJ and ICSA promoting the profession to the next generation.”
David Press, co-founder of DMJ, the company secretarial and legal recruitment specialist said “Company Secretary is a career people should be choosing not a role they fall into by mistake. We need to build the reputation of the profession and encourage companies to offer entry level roles that will prevent skills shortages in the future.”
Jagdish Kaur, a law student at BPP Law School in Birmingham commented: “The Insight Day was a great opportunity to understand how varied, exciting and rewarding a company secretarial career can be. It has left me with a better understanding of the remit of the role, the challenges and the opportunities and is definitely a career I will pursue in the future.”
